Clemson Football: Dwayne Allen will represent Tigers in the Super Bowl
Former Clemson football tight end Dwayne Allen will be the lone representative for the Tigers in the Super Bowl this Sunday.
Dwayne Allen will be the lone representative for Clemson football in the Super Bowl this coming Sunday.
Allen, a member of the New England Patriots, will participate in the biggest game of the year- Super Bowl LIII.
Allen is the backup tight end for the Patriots, playing behind star Rob Gronkowski. On the season, he has three receptions for 27 yards. While Allen’s catching stats have not been eye-popping, he has done an excellent job this season blocking and has played some meaningful snaps for the Patriots.
With a win in Sunday’s game, Allen would become the 27th Clemson football player to receive a Super Bowl ring. He played in last year’s Super Bowl, but the Patriots came up a little short in their effort against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Although Allen’s stats haven’t been that impressive this season, he has actually had a nice career with both the Indianapolis Colts and the Patriots. For his career, Allen has 139 receptions for 1,564 yards and 20 touchdowns.
A Clemson football great…
I really enjoyed watching Dwayne Allen play during his time at Clemson. Allen finished his career as an All-American and was a huge piece in helping turn the Tiger program around.
In my opinion, he left Clemson football as one of the best tight ends to ever play in Tiger Town. He was one of the few tight ends that had true balance. Allen was just as good at blocking as he was at catching passes.
That was a huge asset for Tajh Boyd and that prolific Clemson offense.
He declared for the NFL Draft after his junior season and the rest is history.
It will be fun to watch him participate in the big game Sunday night and, although he may not make much of an impact on the stat sheet, I think you’ll see Allen play a solid role as the Patriots attempt to win yet another Super Bowl under the leadership of Tom Brady.
