Over the course of the next couple of weeks, we will be giving you a breakdown of every Clemson football player that redshirted during the 2018 season.
Many of those redshirt players will be making huge impacts on the 2019 season as the Tigers look to fill several key positions off of last year’s team.
Today, we begin our series with a look at a unique redshirt. Jamie Skalski was one of two players not freshmen that redshirted in the 2018 season.
Skalski will now have two years of eligibility remaining as he begins his redshirt junior yearthis season.
Clemson Football Redshirt Report:
Name: Jamie Skalski
Position: Linebacker
Home Town: Sharpsburg, GA
Height: 6-1
Weight: 240
Analysis:
Skalski played in a few games this season, but the Tigers decided early on to hold him back for a year unless there were injuries in which he just had to play.
The reason?
The coaching staff knew that there was a good chance that the Tigers would Tre Lamar after this season. Clemson also lost Kendall Joseph, JD Davis and Judah Davis off the linebacker corp.
Skalski is a very physical tackler and reminds me a bit of Ben Boulware, but maybe with quicker feet. He’s a perfect fit for that MIKE linebacker spot and he’s a very good run-stuffer and pass-rusher. It will be interesting to see if Skalski can develop in pass coverage, which is probably his weak point right now.
Where does he fit?
Currently, I believe Jamie Skalski is going to be a starting linebacker this year for the Tigers. Right now, I think you see Isaiah Simmons play that SLB/NB position as he did 2018 alongside Shaq Smith at WLB.
Skalski will be penciled in at MLB for the time being.
It will be interesting to see if he is able to form into a leader on this team and become the next great linebacker for Clemson football.
