While Clemson football will be taking on Alabama tonight in the National Championship, SEC fans have come out in full force in support of the Tide.

While Clemson football will be taking on Alabama tonight in the National Championship game, the rest of the SEC seems to think they somehow are involved.

Even though it’s been pretty clear that the Tigers and the Tide are consistently the two best programs in the country, many fans of other SEC programs seem to believe that Bama winning will somehow boost their program.

As a matter of fact, I’m not sure they even care about their own program.

It’s been like this for years…

For some reason, SEC fans always believe that riding Alabama’s coattails is a good thing.

They vicariously live through Alabama, I guess to make up for the fact that their programs just aren’t any good.

I mean, let’s be honest here.

Are there really any elite teams in the SEC after Alabama? Every year they get all these top-rated recruits and have all these teams ranked in the preseason top-25, but then they really never prove it on the field.

The conference gets rewarded for beating or losing to teams in its own conference. But then will bowl season comes around, they never seem to be interested in their own bowl game, just that of Alabama’s.

Georgia is the second-best team in that league and they just got physically out-manned by Texas. But, I guess they just didn’t want to be there, right?

Now, I know that the ACC isn’t the best conference in the nation. But, at least the conference doesn’t go around waving its flag or living vicariously through Clemson football.

In the end, I just feel the need to remind SEC fans that the game tonight is by no means indicative of anything having to do with conference pride. Alabama winning doesn’t benefit your programs. As a matter of fact, it may hurt your programs in recruiting.

The game is between Clemson and Alabama. The Tigers and the Tide. Not anything more and not anything less.
