Clemson Football: Is Andrew Booth the next Mackensie Alexander?
Clemson football received a National Letter of Intent from 5-star CB Andrew Booth Wednesday. Is he the next Mackensie Alexander for the Tigers?
The 2019 Clemson football recruiting class received National Letters of Intent from all 26 of its commitments Wednesday morning.
Among those 26 commitments was 5-star CB Andrew Booth, of Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Booth is the gem of this class. He addresses one of the Tigers’ biggest needs and is a guy that will come in and play right away.
I absolutely love his size, athleticism and explosiveness from the defensive backfield. He’s a guy that, in my opinion, could be the best cornerback Clemson football has had since another talented prospect named Mackensie Alexander.
Analysis:
While Booth and Alexander find ways to lock down their receivers, they do it in different ways. Alexander was a guy that just couldn’t be shaken. He was constantly wherever his receiver was.
Booth is a guy that can read the quarterback and jump into passing lanes. He also has a more physical upside with his 6-foot-1, 188 pound frame. That’s two inches taller than Alexander.
I think you’re going to see Booth come in and play right away. If Trayvon Mullen declares for the NFL Draft, I think you see him take that corner spot opposite of AJ Terrell.
That will allow a guy like Mario Goodrich or Kyler McMichael to play out of the safety position and give solid depth to that defensive backfield.
Booth is going to be one of the first defensive backs taken in the NFL Draft a few years from now assuming health and that he comes in ready to put in the work. I’m really excited about this commitment and think we have the potential to see Booth come in and become one of the most dominant defensive backs in school history.
He’s that type of player.
