Clemson football received a commitment from 4-star defensive tackle Tyler Davis Wednesday morning. Here’s what the talented DL brings to the Tigers.

Clemson football received a commitment Wednesday morning from 4-star defensive tackle Tyler Davis.

This commitment proved to be one of the most important of the class. The Tigers are low in depth at defensive tackle, especially with the departure of Christian Wilkins and Albert Huggins, and with the expected departure of Dexter Lawrence following this season.

Davis is a guy that will provide much-needed depth to a position that badly needed it.

He’s the highest-rated defensive tackle in the class and really should have a chance to come in and compete right away.

Analysis:

So, what does Tyler Davis bring to Clemson football?

He’s a very good defensive tackle with a great motor and solid athleticism. He’s a little undersized compared to a guy like Dexter Lawrence, so I expect him to be in the weight room and put on a little more muscle before his freshman season.

Currently, Davis is 6-foot-1 and weighs in at about 293 pounds. If he were around 6-foot-3, he’d be one of the top defensive linemen in the class. Because of those measureables, he reminds of a guy like Grady Jarrett.

I do think it will take a year or so for him to develop into an elite player, but he certainly has the technique and leverage to be of assistance this year. He’ll be competing with guys like Xavier Kelly, Darnell Jefferies, Jordan Williams and Nyles Pinckney for a spot on the two-deep.

Next. Which Underclassmen are considering leaving early?. dark

Most likely, I see Davis splitting time in the two or three deep and developing as a freshman. Later on in the 2019 season, I could see him slowly begin to earn more playing time.

Either way, this is a huge signing for Clemson football and it will be fun to watch Davis compete and progress over the next few years as a Tiger.
