Clemson Football: Could Deshaun Watson lead Texans to a Super Bowl?
Could former Clemson football quarterback Deshaun Watson lead the Houston Texans to a Super Bowl? He’s certainly got them in position to make a run.
It may not happen this year.
But, here’s a bold prediction for you: At some point in the near future, former Clemson football quarterback Deshaun Watson is going to win a Super Bowl for the Houston Texans.
Currently, the Texans sit in first place of the AFC South standings (10-4) and could clinch the division with one more win. There are just two games remaining (@ Philadelphia Eagles, vs. Jacksonville Jaguars).
There are scenarios out there where the Texans could actually still earn the first-seed in the AFC, but it would take a few things happening.
Despite where they end up, it’s clear that Houston has a shot at getting to the Super Bowl and competing with any team they will face. Why? Well, it’s mainly because of a Clemson football connection and a star-studded defense.
Deshaun Watson has been very good for the Texans all season. He at times has been inconsistent, but part of that comes back to an offensive line that just hasn’t been good. The only knock on Watson this season, really, has been that he has taken sacks instead of throwing the ball away or getting the ball out quicker.
He has the best wide receiver in the league in DeAndre ‘Nuk’ Hopkins to throw the ball to and the two really have been fun to watch this season.
That dynamic duo, along with a very talented defense and supporting cast, could lead the Texans all the way here in the next couple of seasons.
It could very well happen this year if everything went perfect, but I think the Texans are probably a piece or two on the offensive line away from becoming the best team in the NFL. They’ll have to compete with the Chiefs and Patriots out of the AFC, but they’re certainly getting better and the future looks bright for Watson, Hopkins and that franchise.
It will be fun to watch and see what they can do the rest of this season and how they compete once they get into the playoffs. This has been a fun Texans to watch and I’m looking forward to seeing just what they are capable of as we head into the thick of January.
We all know that Deshaun Watson is a winner who shines on the biggest stages. Could that NFL playoff stage perhaps be the stage he needs to take his career to the next level?
