Clemson Football Recruiting: Could the Tigers miss out on their top-two OL targets?
The 2019 Clemson football recruiting class is looking pretty good, but the Tigers are in need of another offensive lineman.
The 2019 Clemson football recruiting cycle is coming to an end.
The Tigers currently have 24 commitments and are looking to add a few more before the class is officially finalized in February. With the early signing period, that also gives a little less time to recruit targets as most will be announcing their commitment and signing in December.
While the Tigers have recruited well in 2019, it’s clear that they are after at least another offensive lineman and probably another defensive tackle, as well.
Could the Tigers miss out on their top-two targets at offensive line? It’s certainly looking like a possibility.
Right now, there are three guys that have been on the top of recruiting boards for Clemson football along the offensive line.
- Clay Webb, 5-star Center
- Will Putnam, 4-star Offensive Guard
- Jakai Moore, 3-star Offensive Guard
As of the latest reports, Dabo Swinney canceled plans for an in-home visit with Clay Webb last week. That would tell me that he’s out for Clemson, assuming something doesn’t massively change. Webb was always a long shot for the Tigers to land it seems that he’s leaning more towards Alabama or Georgia at this point, most likely the Bulldogs.
Update (Monday, Dec 10 morning): Clay Webb committed to Georgia, as we expected.
Will Putnam was a guy that many thought Clemson football was in the lead for, but it’s tough to know where he stands right now. 247 Sports favors both Florida State and Auburn for his services.
Dabo Swinney, Robbie Caldwell and Tony Elliott all had an in-home visit with Putnam Friday.
Jakai Moore, a South Carolina native, is considering Clemson, South Carolina and Penn State. Right now, it would seem that the Gamecocks have the inside track for his services followed by the Nittany Lions. I do think the Tigers are still in the thick of things with him, but it’s tough to tell.
I think you can tell that the coaching staff isn’t too confident in getting any of these three right now. Tony Elliott upgraded Hanahan’s Cooper Dawson from a grayshirt offer to a full scholarship for mid-year enrollment. I don’t think that move would’ve been done if the coaches were confident on landing one, or two, of these three guys.
