5. 2008: Dabo seals the head coaching job

I wish I had time to go back through boards on the internet in 2008. There were Clemson football fans that were absolutely ripping Dabo Swinney.

It didn’t stop when the young coach beat the Gamecocks that year, either.

It continued for a couple of years after, but that 2008 victory was the one that sold Dabo to the folks that mattered: Terry Don Phillips and the Athletic Department. They trusted his vision and believed the young coach could get the job done, but they needed proof.

Swinney’s 31-14 win over South Carolina, coached by Steve Spurrier, was exactly the proof they were looking for. That win earned Swinney the job and it has paid dividends.
