Clemson football freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence was named a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award.

Clemson football may have a once-in-a-generation talent at quarterback.

Freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence has come into the program and immediately garnered the attention of the coaches and his teammates.

In the spring game, people were already talking about the difference in talent between Lawrence and former Clemson football quarterback Kelly Bryant.

Four games into the season, Lawrence won the starting position and has continued to progress and get better throughout his first year as a Tiger.

On Wednesday, Lawrence was named a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award. The award is annually given to the nation’s best quarterback.

Lawrence joins a list of talented gunslingers, including Ian Book of Notre Dame; Ryan Finley of NC State; Mason Fine or North Texas; Jake Fromm of Georgia; Will Grier of West Virginia; Dwayne Haskins of Ohio State; McKenzie Milton of UCF; Kyler Murray of Oklahoma; and several other quarterbacks. Lawrence is the only freshman on the list, which includes 16 total quarterbacks.

Thoughts:

Trevor Lawrence has been very good this season. He’s already become one of, if not, the best freshman quarterback in Clemson football history.

I don’t know how anyone could really argue with that considering the success that he’s had and the numbers that he has put up.

Lawrence is the type of player that NFL scouts are drooling over. He’s going to be the top pick in a future NFL Draft and is continuing to show all of his attributes that make him such a special talent.

It will be fun to see how Lawrence progresses through the rest of the season and to see what he is capable of in the next couple of years. He may not win the O’Brien Award this year, but I do believe that Lawrence will win the prestigious honor before he leaves Clemson.
