Clemson Football: Have we seen the last of white pants in 2018?

We’ve now entered the championship phase of the 2018 Clemson football season. And that means it’s time for a bit of a uniform change for the Tigers.

The Clemson football game against Louisville was the last time, most likely, that we’ll see the Tigers wear white pants this season.

Why?

When it comes time for championship games, Dabo Swinney has elected for the Tigers to wear the orange britches.

The orange pants only come out for championships and bowl games. They don’t come out for a special night game or just because and I like that about the tradition that Swinney has created since taking over as the Clemson football coach.

So, why will we not see white pants the rest of the season? It’s the championship phase.

Championship Drive…

Clemson will travel up to Boston College this weekend in a game that will be nationally televised on ABC in prime time and featured on ESPN College GameDay.

If the Tigers win, they will clinch the ACC Atlantic Division. Simple as that. That means, according to the rule of orange britches, that we should see the special pants come out this weekend in Chestnut Hill.

Following the game against Boston College, Clemson returns home to take on Duke for Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day. That Saturday, the Tigers will wear the purple uniforms to honor the military and that means we’ll see purple pants.

The following week, Clemson will take on South Carolina in what has been deemed the “State Championship.” That’s yet another championship game and will be the first time that we see all orange for the Tigers in 2018 as the Tigers will wear white tops and orange pants when they take on Boston College this week, presumably.

If Clemson beats Boston College and wins the Atlantic, the Tigers will play in the ACC Championship game the following week, which means we’ll see the orange britches yet again.

It’s time, Clemson football fans.

We’re in the championship phase and the uniform should tell you the whole story as the Tigers look to “leave no doubt” heading into the final few games of the regular season.

So, to recap. Here’s the uniform combinations that we should see to close out the season:

  • @ Boston College: White jersey, orange pants
  • vs. Duke: Purple jersey, purple pants
  • vs. South Carolina: Orange jersey, orange pants
