The next step in a successful Clemson football season is clinching the division. Here’s the path to clinching the ACC Atlantic for the Tigers.

We’ve already moved on to College Football Playoff talk despite the fact that we still have four games left in November.

The next goal, according to Clemson football’s yearly goal chart, is to win the ACC Atlantic Division.

The Tigers are currently 8-0 overall and leading the ACC Atlantic with three conference games remaining.

So, how do the Tigers get to that next goal? Here’s a look at the current divisional standings and what it will take for Clemson football to clinch.

ACC Atlantic Division Standings:

  1. Clemson (5-0)
  2. Boston College (3-1)
  3. Syracuse (3-2)
  4. NC State (2-2)
  5. Florida State (2-4)
  6. Wake Forest (1-3)
  7. Louisville (0-5)

With a win this weekend, Clemson will inch one step closer to officially winning the division.

Next week, no matter what, the Tigers will have a chance to clinch the Atlantic. After a game against Louisville this weekend, Clemson will travel to Boston College.

The Eagles take on Virginia Tech this weekend. If Boston College loses and Clemson wins this weekend, the Tigers would clinch at least a portion of the Atlantic Division.

If both teams win, the game next weekend will basically decide the division.

As long as Clemson beats Louisville Saturday, the Tigers would mathematically lock up the division with a win on the road at Boston College- no matter what the Eagles do- making that matchup an “orange pants game.”

If Boston College were to beat Virginia Tech and then turn around and beat Clemson, though, things get a little crazy.

It would still be unlikely that any other team, like NC State, could get back into the mix unless both teams lost again. Basically, the Tigers would have to hope for Boston College to lose Florida State or Syracuse to close out the season.

Honestly, scenarios don’t really matter as long as you win. Clemson football will have a chance next weekend to win its fourth-straight division championship and should definitely get the job done.
