How does Clemson football compare to the Alabama Crimson Tide heading into week 10. Here’s our comparison of the two teams at this point in the season.

Whether you like it or not, it seems as if Clemson football and Alabama are on a collision course for each other heading straight toward the National Championship.

The first College Football Playoff rankings for 2018 came out Tuesday evening and, to no one’s surprise, the Tide were ranked first and the Tigers were ranked second.

Honestly, there’s a huge gap between the Alabama, Clemson and everyone else.

I’m not saying that either team can’t be upset or that injuries can’t happen, but I am saying that it looks more and more likely that we see these two teams match up yet again in the playoff, this time most likely in the National Championship.

So, each week, we’re going to compare the two teams, not necessarily by resume, but more of what kind of product they are putting on the field.

Here’s what we think about the two heading into week 10 of the College Football season.

Clemson Football Comparison: Alabama

Over the next couple of weeks, we’re going to take a more in-depth look at Alabama and Clemson and how they match up with one another.

For now, though, I think there’s a few things we can take from the Crimson Tide, both good and bad.

  1. Tua Tagovailoa is a special talent
  2. The Alabama offense is as good as it has ever been
  3. The secondary isn’t as deep as it once was
  4. Alabama’s defensive line lost some historically great players
  5. Even with the losses, the defense is still No. 16 in total defense
  6. Nick Saban is an elite coach

Right now, if the two teams matched up, I think there would probably be about a 10-point spread on the game in favor of Alabama.

The Crimson Tide has the better offense and Clemson has the better defense. The real question would be how the Tiger offensive line matched up with the Alabama defensive line and front-seven.

Alabama’s defense is not as good as it has been over the past few years and that’s apparent. The problem, though, is the fact that the offense is the best it has ever been.

For Clemson to beat Bama, I think we’re going to have to see some improvements in the secondary and along the offensive line. Trevor Lawrence will also need to continue to progress.

We’ll take a deeper, more in-depth look at the two teams and how they match up on paper here over the next few weeks, but this is kind of a “first look” at the two programs.

There’s still a lot of football to be played and a lot can happen between now and then. Bama could easily lose on the road this weekend to LSU. Either team could be upset. But, right now this matchup looks as if it is becoming increasingly more likely.
