There’s been a lot of talk about the depth of Alabama’s quarterback room, but Chase Brice may have propelled Clemson football into that realm as of late.

We’ve heard it all year.

“Alabama has the deepest quarterback room in the nation.”

With the decision of Jalen Hurts to stay in Tuscaloosa despite losing his starting position to Tua Tagovailoa, the Crimson Tide easily have the most experienced quarterback room in the country with their one-two punch.

I mean, how many teams have a backup quarterback that led their team to a National Championship? The answer is none.

When Kelly Bryant left the Clemson football program, everyone talked about how the Tigers were slim at quarterback. They talked about how if Trevor Lawrence went down with an injury, Clemson had no chance.

Well, that may be true, but it’s also true of Alabama.

Is Brice the best backup QB in the country?

If Tua is injured, Jalen Hurts isn’t leading the Crimson Tide past Clemson. There’s not really any team in the country that will win the National Championship with their backup quarterback, most likely anyway.

But, I would say this when considering the two: I would take Clemson with Chase Brice at quarterback over Alabama with Jalen Hurts as quarterback.

When Brice first took over in the Syracuse game, he looked lost. After a catch from Hunter Renfrow, though, we saw what Chase Brice was capable of.

Over the past few weeks, he has put up some really impressive stats in the time that he has played. In the last three games, Brice has completed 14-of-20 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns.

Almost every single throw is right on target and he just seems to be throwing the ball with so much more confidence right now than ever before.

Now, don’t get me wrong.

As  I said earlier, I’m not sure that Chase Brice could lead Clemson football to a National Championship, but I do think he is more than capable of beating every single team remaining on the Tigers’ schedule and I do believe that he has turned into one of the nation’s best backup quarterbacks. He is playing with confidence and I really like what I am seeing from the redshirt freshman as of late.
