Clemson Football: 5 Areas the Tigers must improve to win a National Championship
5. Better Starts
For whatever reason, Clemson’s offense has been very slow starting most games.
There have been very few games this season where the scripted set of plays resulted in any points for the Tigers. I know part of that is because the co-offensive coordinators have elected to feel out defenses rather than go for the “knockout shot” a couple of plays into the game.
With that being said, though, we need to see some better starts from the Tigers.
I know part of the problem is that you’ve got a freshman quarterback who comes out a little nervous, amping up throws. I know that the Tigers also get everyone’s best shot early in games. But, starting a game quick is going to be important especially when we get into the College Football Playoff. You can’t afford to go scoreless against Alabama in the first quarter if the Crimson Tide score a couple of times.
It’s going to be important for us to see Clemson come out and be dominant, even in the first quarter of games, from here on out.
