At some point this season, I’ve come to the belief that we’re going to see Christian Wilkins take a snap at quarterback for Clemson football.

Ever since Kelly Bryant transferred out of the Clemson football program, the Tigers have had one candidate to play quarterback that has been overlooked.

Trevor Lawrence has taken over as the starter and has done an excellent job. Chase Brice is now a confident and very ready back up. Ben Batson has taken some snaps in garbage time and we even saw Hunter Renfrow- the man that can do it all- lead the Tigers on a touchdown drive as quarterback in the Wake Forest game.

We’ve all enjoyed seeing Renfrow play the quarterback position, but there is one player who continually has fought for a chance to lead the team out at QB. That player is Christian Wilkins.

He’s not on the depth chart. He’s not going to be attending the QB meetings, like Will Spiers for instance, but I’m becoming more and more convinced that we see Wilkins take a snap as the quarterback for Clemson football this season.

He has earned it…

We all understand that this is a long-running joke between Christian Wilkins and the media.

In the end, this may be more than just a joke. Wilkins came back to Clemson when he could’ve easily been a first or second round draft pick in last year’s draft and he did so knowing that he had already finished his degree. This guy has put in a ton of work to the Clemson football program over the last four years.

Can you imagine Dabo rewarding him with an honorary snap at the quarterback position?

Here’s what I think:

You wait to pull this out until the South Carolina game. This would be Wilkins’ last ever game in Death Valley. Wait until we’re into the fourth quarter and the Tigers are up handily. Perhaps Chase Brice or Hunter Renfrow has led the Tigers down the field inside the Gamecocks’ 10-yard line. Here comes Christian Wilkins.

Next. Comparing Trevor Lawrence to Deshaun Watson as a freshman. dark

Wilkins takes a snap out of shotgun and runs the ball right up the middle, maybe getting two-three yards for a touchdown. What would ensue would be the greatest touchdown celebration in Clemson football history.

It’s probably all just a dream or wishful thinking, but I think it would be awesome to see Wilkins get a snap at quarterback.
