Clemson football quarterback Trevor Lawrence led the Tigers to a win against Wake Forest on his birthday Saturday afternoon.

Clemson football quarterback Trevor Lawrence started his second game Saturday afternoon and this time it was a much better result.

In Lawrence’s first game as a starter against Syracuse, he was injured and forced to sit out the second half.

Against the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest, Lawrence was able to play the entire first half and part of the third quarter. He did enter the injury tent for a brief moment in the first half, but returned very quickly. He ended up checking out of the game because of a blowout midway through the third quarter.

Here’s our grade of Trevor Lawrence’s performance Saturday afternoon.

Trevor Lawrence Report Card:

Lawrence was forced to throw a lot of screens, due to play-calling. There was also a lot of switching in-and-out on the offensive line that led to him having to take a few sacks. He missed on a couple of throws, but I think we still saw the young freshman grow up Saturday.

He made a crisp throw to Justyn Ross that turned into a 55-yard touchdown. He then followed that up with a beautiful pass into a tight window for a touchdown to Tee Higgins.

Lawrence finished the day 20-of-25 for 173 yards and two touchdowns.

He looked like a freshman at times, but you have to be impressed with his decision making and ability to stand in with pressure and deliver nice passes. Honestly, other than a fumble on the second drive of the game, he didn’t make any mistakes. Clemson switched in a lot of wide receivers, as well, which made it hard to have continuity.

Lawrence ended the day completing the ball to several different guys and he looked a lot more poised in this outing.

Grade: B-

Certainly an solid performance from Lawrence. It definitely wasn’t his “A” game as we will have to wait at least a couple more weeks to see that, but he looked a lot more comfortable and it’s clear that he’s the leader of that offense now. I like the growth I’m seeing from Trevor Lawrence and he is right on track to be playing his best football when it’s needed later this season.
