Clemson football wide receiver Hunter Renfrow doesn’t get the credit he deserves for his talent and ability as an athlete.
Hunter Renfrow is a starting wide receiver, the fourth-string quarterback, a backup punter and could play defensive back for Clemson football if needed.
While everybody loves Renfrow, I don’t think we give him enough credit for his ability on the field.
Take a look back at that Syracuse game. We all talk about the gutsy performance of Chase Brice and the play he made in the fourth quarter. We talk about the rushing attack led by Travis Etienne and how they were able to pound the Orange defense.
While all of those guys deserved tons of credit, the single biggest play of the game may have came back in the third quarter when Hunter Renfrow made an absolutely amazing catch on third down to keep the drive alive for the Tigers.
Had Renfrow not made that catch, Clemson would’ve had to punt. Instead, the Tigers came away with a field goal on that drive and that reception, in my opinion, gave Chase Brice the confidence to perform at a high level going forward.
It’s amazing to me how many times over the last two and a half years that Hunter Renfrow has been the one to come up with a big play when the Tigers needed it most. His hands are unlike any other and his “team-first” mentality is what makes Tiger fans absolutely love him.
The kid has been nothing short of spectacular both on and off the field. He’s the unsung hero of the offense and, if Clemson football does end up competing for a National Championship, Hunter Renfrow will be a huge reason why.
