The Clemson football team went to Winston-Salem and absolutely destroyed the Demon Deacons, totaling a final score of 63-3.
Clemson football rode the rushing attack to a 63-3 win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons Saturday afternoon in Winston-Salem.
After a slow first quarter that only led to seven points, the Tigers decided to let the rushing attack open up the rest of the offense. And did it ever.
The Demon Deacons were unable to muster a single touchdown in the game offensively and couldn’t stop the likes of Travis Etienne and that running back group on the defense.
Freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence had a slow start, but finished the game well, completing 20-of-25 passing attempts for 173 yards and two touchdowns, including an impressive 55-yard completion to fellow freshman Justyn Ross.
If he wasn’t already in the Heisman conversation, Travis Etienne should absolutely be there now. He finished the day with 10 carries for 167 yards and three touchdowns. That’s an average of 16.7 yards per carry.
Freshman Lyn-J Dixon also had 10 carries for 163 yards and two touchdowns, while Adam Choice had 10 carries for 128 yards and a touchdown. The Tiger finished the day with 471 yards rushing and an average of 11.8 yards per carry.
Instant Analysis:
This was exactly what the Tigers needed heading into a bye week.
Clemson football absolutely dominated this game on both sides of the ball and played a ton of guys while doing so.
I think we saw Trevor Lawrence begin to settle into the game after a shaky start and I think we all know what the Tigers need to do going forward, as far as how to balance the offense.
We’re going to look back at this game later in the season and think about how this was kind of the turning point of the year for the Tigers. I think we’re going to see more offensive performances like this as we get into the second half of the regular season and it should be a lot of fun.
What’s next?
Clemson will take a much-needed bye week before hosting the NC State Wolfpack the following Saturday. The time of that game has not been announced as of the time of this writing.
