Clemson Football Update: Trevor Lawrence starting to feel better
Clemson football starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence was injured against Syracuse. Here’s the latest update on his condition following the win Saturday.
Clemson football starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence went down Saturday afternoon when he took a shoulder to the head against the Syracuse Orange.
Lawrence was able to walk off the field under his own power and then spent time in the injury tent before coming back out to sit with the team on the sideline, but the trainers had taken his helmet.
Just a couple of minutes later, Lawrence was taken back into the locker room and that was the last that we saw of him.
Lawrence finished 10-of-15 for 93 yards passing in the first half.
Here’s the latest on the Clemson quarterback.
Clemson Football Injury Update:
Tiger co-offensive coordinator told the media following the game that Lawrence indeed was in concussion protocol.
He did say that the freshman gunslinger was “feeling better” in the second half, which is a good sign.
Dabo Swinney told the media that Lawrence wanted to come back into the game.
"“He’s really doing great,” he said via Tigernet. “He actually wanted to come back in and play. He got banged up and had concussion-like symptoms and you just don’t mess with that…He tried to come back in but you trust your doctors.”"
The thing about a concussion is you really never know how long it takes to recover. Some mild concussions can be gone after a couple of days. Others take a few weeks.
Speculating right now, I’d say that it’s about a 50/50 chance that the Tigers get Trevor Lawrence back in time to prepare and play against Wake Forest this next Saturday. The good news is, though, that Clemson has a bye week following the tilt with the Demon Deacons.
That will give Lawrence a chance to get back into the scheme and really recover before the second half of the regular season begins.
I think the coaches are hopefully he’ll be back this weekend, but only time will tell when we’ll see Lawrence back on the field. Concussions are nothing to mess with, so we’ll have to trust the training staff to keep him safe and do what’s right.
The good news is that Clemson has a quarterback in Chase Brice that truly grew up before our eyes today. A week of preparation should have Brice ready to go if he is indeed needed.
