Did freshman Trevor Lawrence officially stamp the quarterback position for Clemson football with his performance against Georgia Tech?

The Clemson football offense looked as good as it has in quite some time Saturday afternoon when the Tigers defeated the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Atlanta.

Part of that offensive fluidity has to be credited to freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who stepped into the game in the second quarter and never looked back.

Lawrence finished the game completing 13-of-18 passes for 176 yards and four touchdowns to one interception.

He led the Tigers to three touchdown drives in the second quarter and really was the spark plug needed for an offense that, honestly, was struggling early on.

Did he win the QB position?

This is the big question that Dabo Swinney and his coaching staff will face going forward. It’s clear, in my mind, that Trevor Lawrence is the best option at quarterback for this team.

It has nothing to do with lack of respect for Kelly Bryant, it has more to do with the talent and skill level of Trevor Lawrence.

Especially on Saturday, the offense just looked different when Lawrence was in at quarterback. The playbook was opened up and it seemed like everyone played looser. Honestly, the offensive line even looked better when it was clear that Lawrence was going to be the guy going forward.

Some of that can be attested to the fact that Georgia Tech isn’t that good, but you have to take into account what Lawrence was able to do Saturday in Atlanta.

I was extremely impressed and I wouldn’t be shocked at all to see an “or” situation at the quarterback position going forward. I don’t think the coaching staff are going to completely give the freshman the keys yet, but it seems like we’re inching closer and closer to that decision.

Lawrence is just a freak of nature. He’s as good as advertised and is only going to get better. I’ll leave you with this stat for now:

Through four games, Trevor Lawrence has nine touchdown passes splitting time with Kelly Bryant. Conversely, Bryant only had 13 touchdown passes the entire season as a full-time starter last year for the Tigers.
