The Clemson football team opened up the 2018 season with a 48-7 win over the Furman Paladins Saturday afternoon.

It was a game where we saw the Tigers, a little rusty on offense, come out slow, but finish strong. Overall, Clemson was able to take control of the game from the start and the outcome, of course, was never in doubt.

The Tigers opened up the scoring with a nice pass from Kelly Bryant to Amari Rodgers early in the first quarter and never looked back.

Here’s a look at some statistics, analysis and full highlights of the game.

Analysis:

Overall, this game was exactly what you’d expect. The defense was dominant and didn’t allow Furman to score until late into garbage time. I was very impressed by the defensive line, which showed why they have been given all the preseason accolades.

At quarterback, Trevor Lawrence stole the show. He showed a little freshman jitters early on, but settled into the game and led Clemson on scoring drive after scoring drive. Bryant missed some throws early, but had a good possession in the third quarter. Right now, I’d say that you’re going to see both Bryant and Lawrence at Texas A&M.

What’s next?

Clemson football will travel to College Station to take on the Texas A&M Aggies. The Aggies, led by coach Jimbo Fisher, will be looking for an upset.
