Today we continue our analysis of 2018 Clemson football opponents with a look at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

The 2018 Clemson football season is less than three weeks away from kickoff.

The Tigers will open up the season with a home game against the Furman Paladins. After going on the road for a match up with the Texas A&M Aggies, Clemson will go home for a game with Georgia Southern before hitting the road to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Today, we continue our coverage of Clemson football opponents with a look at the Ramblin’ Wreck of Georgia Tech.

Clemson Football Opponent Analysis:

Who: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Game Date: Saturday, Sept. 22

Conference: ACC

Head Coach: Paul Johnson (11th season at Georgia Tech, 17th overall)

2017 Record: 5-6.

Key Players: QB TaQuon Marshall, B-Back KirVonte Benson, OL Parker Braun, DE Anree Saint-Amour, LB Victor Alexander.

2018 Opponent Outlook:

Georgia Tech had a rather disappointing year last season finishing just 5-6. This season, the Yellow Jackets look to rebound with a little bit of a different look. Georgia Tech will be switching from a typical four-down linemen look on defense to a 3-4 base with multiple schemes under new defensive coordinator Nate Wood from Appalachian State.

That switch may allow their defense, which was just not good under Ted Roof last year, to play to its strengths. Georgia Tech has some athletes and allowing them to spread the field will help in coverage of some of the spread offenses in the league.

On offense, we all know that Georgia Tech will run that option offense. TaQuon Marshall is back as the head of the offense and he will have what may be the best B-back in Paul Johnson’s coaching history behind him in KirVonte Benson.

In my opinion, Georgia Tech has a chance to be a 8-4, 9-3 or maybe even 10-2 team. They will compete in the ACC Coastal with Miami and certainly could see Clemson twice this season, once in the regular season and in the ACC Championship Game.

I like this Georgia Tech team, but I don’t know that they have the talent to beat Clemson even playing at home. Brent Venables seems to have figured out how to stop that option and the Tigers have plenty of veterans with experience against Tech.

If Clemson’s offense can get on the board, the Tigers should be able to put this one in the “W” column.
