Former Clemson football player Brian Dawkins will make history this weekend when he is inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Former Clemson football star Brian Dawkins has had one storied career.

Dawkins attended Clemson from 1993 through 1996 and recorded 247 career tackles and 11 interceptions. He was named a second-team All-American in 1995 when he recorded six interceptions, according to ClemsonTigers.com.

Dawkins was then taken by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the NFL Draft in 1996.

He played there until inking a contract with the Denver Broncos in 2009. Dawkins retired from football in April of 2012. He finished his NFL career with 1,131 tackles and 37 interceptions.

This weekend, Dawkins will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

He will be the first Clemson football player ever to receive the honor.

Making History…

It’s clear that Brian Dawkins will be making history for the Tigers when he is officially inducted this weekend.

Becoming the first player from a program as storied as Clemson is a great accomplishment. That is, especially, when you think about a lot of the guys that came before him.

It’s hard for me to think that Clemson has never had an induction before. Dawkins talked about the honor on NBC during the Hall of Fame Game Thursday night. Here’s what he had to say via The Clemson Insider:

"“It is unbelievable. Of all the legends and all the individuals that played at Clemson, it is not like it is a scrub school. It is a school with a rich tradition of fine quality players. To know that I am the one that is representing Clemson, as well as my high school back in Raines (Jacksonville, Fla.) it’s is an honor for me. I tell people all the time that I never thought about the Hall of Fame because I was thinking about starting and earning a job, pro bowls and stuff like that. I never thought about the Hall of Fame and here I am a couple of days away from having a bust with this mug on it. Come on! What a blessing.”"

Brian Dawkins has been a great ambassador for Clemson football over the years. He has become one of the best to ever play the game of football and that’s why he’s being inducted.

Dawkins was the perfect blend of physicality and athleticism during his time as a defensive back. I always enjoyed watching him play and rooting for him no matter if it was with the Eagles or the Broncos. He was a leader and a great player.

dark. Next. How will the new kickoff rule affect Clemson?

We at Rubbing the Rock want to congratulate Dawkins on his big accomplishment and wish him the best going forward.
