Clemson football announced a huge contract extension for DC Brent Venables. While it may be a lot of money for Venables, the Tigers are the true winners.

Clemson football announced a new 5 year, $11.6 million deal for Defensive Coordinator Brent Venables.

With the reported agreement, Venables will be the highest paid assistant at a public school in the nation. The deal added two years onto the contract and gave Venables some security options that weren’t necessarily there before.

According to USA Today, the contract will pay him $2.5 million per year.

The buyout for the contract is $2 million.

While the deal is certainly lucrative for Venables, the agreement is a win-win for both Clemson football and Venables alike.

The Best Defensive Coordinator In The Game…

Brent Venables has earned every cent of his contract. Coach V is, in my opinion, the best defensive coordinator in the nation. He has been instrumental in building that Clemson football program and now has one of, if not, the best defense in the country.

Venables loves Clemson and has turned down head coaching jobs to stay in Tiger Town. He’s had plenty of chances to leave and take a job at a lesser program and hasn’t done so. I think one day we will see him want to take a head coaching job, but he’d much rather be an assistant and work with Dabo Swinney than take something just to take it.

I also believe that Venables loves being a defensive coordinator, in general, which has led to him wanting to be involved in the program.

We don’t know the future for Brent Venables, but I certainly think you’ll see him on the Clemson football sideline for quite some time. Venables is as good of a defensive coordinator as you can get and he has made a lasting impact in the program for years to come.
