Clemson football will rely heavily on safety K’Von Wallace on the backside of the defense in 2018. Could Wallace compete for All-ACC honors?

The 2018 Clemson football season is less than two months away.

The Tigers will be hosting the Furman Paladins in Death Valley on Saturday, September 1st and we still have a lot to cover between now and then.

One of the main questions analysts have with Clemson has to do with the defensive backfield. While there is plenty of talent, a lot of the guys will be stepping into roles for the first time, especially in the two and three deep.

When looking at that defensive backfield, though, I see several talented players that could earn All-ACC honors in 2018.

Trayvon Mullen, A.J. Terrell, and even Mark Fields come to mind. One guy that I’m really excited to see play is K’Von Wallace.

A Stellar Safety…

In my opinion, Clemson football hasn’t had a safety with the same caliber of talent as K’Von Wallace since Jayron Kearse’s Junior season.

Jadar Johnson and Van Smith were really good players, but I just really like what I see out of Wallace.

When you watch Wallace play, he is everything that you want out of a safety. He’s not easily fooled and is able to make up for times when he is fooled with good athleticism. Wallace is also the type of guy that can come up and make a play on the running game.

This season, Wallace will be relied upon to be the anchor in the back of that defense. He played behind Van Smith for the majority of last season at free safety before moving to strong safety and sharing time with Tanner Muse.

Now, he’ll play that SS role with Muse at FS. I’m really looking forward to seeing him progress and take that next step forward. Wallace has a chance to be special beginning this season and I think you’ll see him make a name for himself.
