The University Athletic Department announced a new student ticket policy for Clemson football games. The changes should help fix the empty hill.

Clemson football student ticket policy will be different this upcoming season.

The University Athletic Department announced a brand new ticket policy Wednesday that has absolutely been the center of attention in Clemson football circles.

The new policy will allow students that want to guarantee themselves a seat to pay for season tickets at a discounted rate- $280 for the lower deck and $210 for the upper deck. 3,600 seats will be available for season ticket purchases for students.

Students will also be able to do single-game lottery tickets, which will be prioritized based on credit hours and IPTAY membership. 5,100 will be available (2,600 lower, 1,000 upper and 1500 on the hill).

There will also be 1,500 hill tickets available for first-come first-serve on Game Day. There will also be unclaimed lottery tickets and returned tickets available for students for free.

A Solid Compromise…

There was a terrible issue last season with Clemson football. There should never, and I repeat NEVER, be a game in Death Valley in which The Hill was as empty as it was for the Boston College game.

What I’ve heard, there were many students who wanted to come to games, but the lottery system didn’t allow them to. Students that got tickets through the lottery, say on a Tuesday, then decided they didn’t want to come or had other plans come up by Saturday.

This should get rid of that. The students that really, truthfully want to be at the game will either be sitting in a seat they bought or will be trying to make sure they get a ticket. The Game Day pickup option allows for freshman or others who felt screwed by the lottery in 2017 to still get a ticket to the game and sit on the hill.

This is about as good of a compromise as you can get. There’s still a free option for students, but this should also give some incentive to be at the game and actually show up. The administration has done its part, so now it’s time for the students to do theirs. Hopefully this fixes the problems, but only time will tell.
