5. Lack of solid QB candidates early
Let’s be clear here: Trevor Lawrence has no chance to win a Heisman if he doesn’t win the job early.
In other words, if Trevor Lawrence isn’t the starter by the end of September, voters won’t be considering him even if he is really good.
The first reason, though, that Lawrence could sneak into the Heisman conversation if he wins the QB job early is because the lack of solid Quarterback candidates. Not having a QB like Baker Mayfield (experienced and already been a Heisman contender) really bodes well for Lawrence’s Heisman chances.
There are several talented guys, including Will Grier at West Virginia, Tua Tagovailoa at Alabama, and a couple of other QBs (Shea Patterson, for example) that are listed in the updated odds.
That being said, there is no quarterback who has taken the world by storm other than Tagovailoa. If Lawrence emerges early, he’d be just as hyped up as Tagovailoa or any other QB.
