There has been plenty of talk lately about Clemson football quarterback Kelly Bryant transferring out. That’s just not the case, from what I can gather.

Rumors start and then spread like wildfire? Have you ever heard that?

There’s been lots of talk in Clemson football circles this past week about current starting quarterback Kelly Bryant and the prospect of him transferring out of the program.

Now, I’ve done some research and I understand where the rumor is coming from:

  • Bryant just graduated from Clemson, therefore he has the right to go anywhere for a season as a grad transfer.
  • The quarterback situation is not ideal for him, so jumping ship would make sense if you thought you weren’t going to play.

With those things being said, that rumor is just an internet rumor. It was started on a chat board by someone with a “Carolina” username (I’m not going to stoop to giving the whole username). They claimed to have sources inside the Clemson football program.

Wouldn’t it be just like a Gamecock fan to want to start a rumor about Clemson?

With that being said, I’ve looked and talked to some of the best who cover Clemson football. None of them have even admitted to there being a speckle of truth in that story.

It’s easy to start a rumor…

All it takes is a forum and an idea to start whatever you want to. You don’t even have to have a professional-seeming username.

After that, the story starts to explode and you see fans from Arkansas, South Carolina, and Texas A&M get excited for no reason.

The rumor even goes on to say that there will be “more transfers” in the coming months because the NCAA is about to bring the hammer down on Clemson. So, if you’re going to believe the rumor, then you have to believe the whole thing.

I just don’t see Kelly Bryant transferring out of the program.

He has noted that he is ready to come back and right the ship after losing to Alabama last season. Bryant also doesn’t seem like the type to shy away from competition.

Now, maybe I’m wrong.

But, if someone in the Clemson football program leaked a rumor of this magnitude to this “Carolina” person, they should be fired.

I’m not saying that Kelly Bryant couldn’t transfer. All I’m saying is that this rumor is just not true. If Bryant decides to transfer, we will know when the program announces it. News that big isn’t getting outside of the program until an official announcement is made. And if it is, the Tigers have bigger problems. At the very least, I think we should wait until a reliable source pins the possibility instead of someone in a chat room.

Maybe I’m wrong and if I am, I will admit to it. But, to me, it just doesn’t make sense and I believe that this is just another internet rumor made up to get attention.

*NOTE: Many of you will be mad that I even addressed the rumor. I want you to know that I’ve had tons of messages asking about the rumor and the possibility of Bryant transferring. That’s the reason I decided to write this post.*
