The Clemson football program may be on the verge of gaining another commit in the class of 2019. The Tigers are currently trending for 4-star Pennsylvania linebacker, Keith Maguire.

After getting off to a fairly average start to the 2019 recruiting cycle, things have picked up mightily for Clemson over the past two weeks.

Going into the Orange and White game, Clemson held just four commits in the 2019 recruiting cycle. Just a little under two weeks since, the Tigers’ recruiting class has grown to 10 commits.

Blue-chip linebacker, Keith Maguire is set to announce his commitment April 27th at 11:00 am. As of right now, it appears that the Clemson sits in the driver seat in his recruitment.

Two-horse race

Maguire’s recruitment has seemed to dwindle down to two main competitors: Clemson and Notre Dame.

I say Clemson is in the driver’s seat because they have received a flood of crystal ball predictions for Maguire as of today. Most importantly, the Tigers received a crystal ball prediction from Tom Loy, 247sports’ lead Notre Dame expert.

It’s also important to note that Notre Dame brought in a large crop of linebackers in the previous recruiting class. Three of the four linebackers the Fighting Irish signed were rated as blue-chip recruits (4-star or better).

Maguire’s Strengths

At 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, Maguire is as twitchy as they come at the linebacker position. His explosion shows up immediately on tape. His athleticism can’t be overstated.

Similar to Dorian O’Daniel, Maguire has the build and physical gifts of a safety. He can run from side line to sideline and he’s comfortable playing in space. Not to many major division one linebacker recruits can line up at wide receiver and dominate (which Maguire does). Do yourself a favor and go watch his film above.

I can’t see why Maguire is rated as a 3-star prospect at the moment. There are very few flaws in his game. You’d be hard pressed to find another linebacker prospect in the country with more impressive tape.
