The Clemson basketball team will take on the New Mexico State Aggies tonight in San Diego in the NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers come into the tournament as a No. 5 seed and we all know just how dangerous that can be.

New Mexico State is a solid team, especially offensively, and it will be up to the Tigers to expose them defensively and set the tone early.

Analysis:

Clemson basketball will need to advantage of its post-presence. New Mexico State has several guys that can shoot the three and they will all crash the boards.

I think it’s also notable to point out that the Aggies will be playing with a “we have nothing to lose” mentality.

The Tigers will need to get rid of the butterflies early, take control of the tempo, and rebound the ball well. If Clemson can shoot the three-point shot well and if Elijah Thomas can stay on the floor, I think the Tigers should be able to take control of this one.

Prediction:

Look for a close one early, but then Clemson will pull away as we get into the second half and everyone settles in.

Clemson 64, New Mexico State 56
