Clemson Football: Nation’s No. 1 punter commits to Tigers

The 2019 Clemson football class got its fourth commitment when the nation’s No. 1 punter Aidan Swanson announced his decision on Monday.

The 2019 Clemson football recruiting class got a little bigger with another commitment on Monday.

Aidan Swanson, the nation’s No. 1 punter from IMG Academy, announced on Twitter his decision to become a part of Clemson football.

Swanson had a preferred walk-on offer from the Tigers and was informed yesterday that his offer had been upgraded to a full-time scholarship.

Analysis:

Swanson is the type of guy that can come in and start as a punter right away.

He has a really strong leg and is very accurate. He actually isn’t that bad of a place-kicker either. I think he’ll compete with B.T. Potter as a kickoff specialist and should solidify himself sooner rather than later as the starting punter.

He has the chance to be the best Clemson football punter since Bradley Pinion.

It will be interesting to see him develop here as a senior and continue to hone his skills. I know no one gets too excited about a punter, but this is a really big “get” for the Tigers.

It’s not something that will raise your “start rating,” but it was a huge need.

I think we’ve all seen the importance of what a punter brings to a game- for good or for bad.
