Clemson football signee, Xavier Thomas was recently listed on 247sports superlative list for the 2018 recruiting cycle. Here’s the honor he was given.

Out of all the prospects in the 2018 recruiting class, Clemson’s Xavier Thomas was named the lowest risk recruit. This means that his floor as a player is extremely high.

Barton Simmons has been covering college recruiting for some time now. As such his assessment of Thomas speaks volumes. In naming Thomas the lowest risk prospect, Simmons wrote the following, “He (Thomas) has displayed great work ethic and a deliberate approach to working at his craft.”

Talent is certainly important in recruiting, however, a prospect’s dedication to the sport and work ethic are much more essential. Getting a prospect to sign with your school is the beginning of the journey, from there the coaching staff must develop that young man into the best player he can be. That is much easier when a prospect wants that for himself as well.

Two other prospects headed for the ACC were listed on Simmons’ superlative list.

More from Rubbing the Rock

Jordyn Adams (UNC) – Adams, one of Clemson’s most coveted wide receiver prospects in the 2018 recruiting cycle was given the distinction, “Maturity beyond his years. Similar to Thomas, Adams has a professional approach to the game, which likely stems from him being a coaches son.

Nesta Silvera (Miami) – Silvera was named “nastiest” which is pretty self-explanatory. Miami’s defensive line is in need of depth at defensive tackle and Silvera provides just that. At 6-foot-2, 308 pounds, Silvera plays with a tenacity few prospects in the country can match.

Signing Day Preview

Tomorrow is the second and final National Signing Day. The Tigers only have a few scholarships left to fill and they are in heated recruiting battles for a few prospects.

Namely, Leon O’Neal Jr., Justyn Ross, Dax Hollifield and Richard Gouraige. At the moment it doesn’t appear that the Tigers will sign any from that talented quartet. That being said, anything can happpen in the world of recruiting.

The Tigers also hold the sole crystal ball prediction for recent offer and 3-star safety, Trevon Flowers out of Georgia.
