Clemson football defensive tackle, Dexter Lawrence was recognized for giving one of the top quotes of the year in college football this season.

The Tigers are happy to be back in the College Football Playoff for the third straight season. Clemson is set to face Alabama in the Sugar bowl in what looks to be a semifinal matchup for the ages.

Sophomore defensive tackle, Dexter Lawrence is excited to be in New Orleans for more than just the upcoming football game. The 6-foot-5, 320 pound behemoth is also looking forward to sinking his teeth into a staple of New Orleans cuisine.

In ESPN’s list of the 2017 College Football Quotes of the Year, Lawrence is quoted as saying, “Them donuts. What are they called? (Beignets.) Yeah, beignets. I’m going to get me some of them.”

Other notable soundbites

In the vast world of coach speak, it’s refreshing to hear coaches and players alike speak candidly. The following quotes highlight a few of the bright personalities in the college football landscape.

After their upset win over USC, Washington State head coach, Mike Leach told the media:

"It’s a good win. There’s a lot of people. It’s like Woodstock, except everybody’s got their clothes on."

Leach is known for delivering quirky responses and this is no different. Rather than downplay the excitement that the win over USC inspired, he embraced it.

Staying inside of the ACC, Pitt’s Pat Narduzzi guaranteed his team would finish the upset over then-No. 2 Miami during a halftime interview. Narduzzi said, “It happened in West Virginia, where we knocked off No. 2. It happened in South Carolina, and it’s happening in Pittsburgh today.” To have the guts to make that bold statement is one thing. To follow through on that promise is a testament to his leadership and the resolve of his players.

If Clemson defeats Alabama in their semifinal matchup, you can bet Dabo Swinney will deliver a quote worth remembering.
