Brent Venables

Here’s the big one.

Clemson football defensive coordinator Brent Venables’ name has been linked to several different head coaching jobs with Power 5 programs.

It all started last week when his name was linked to the Mississippi State position. That was later filled by Joe Moorhead.

Venables’ name was really linked to Arkansas this week. Here’s what he said Tuesday afternoon in regards to the opening:

You can take this anyway you want to, but it seems to me that he has politely turned the offer down.

There’s another report coming out that Arkansas’ coaching search is coming to a close with former Clemson assistant Chad Morris rising as the favorite. That could be wrong and Venables may be holding it back, but right now I don’t think that he’ll be a Razorback, especially after hearing what he had to say today.

In addition to the Arkansas job, Tennessee has become a rumored destination for Brent Venables. Of course, Tennessee has reached out to just about everyone.

According to GridIronNow.com, Alabama DC Jeremy Pruitt, Auburn DC Kevin Steele, and Georgia DC Mel Tucker are all undergoing second interviews, where Brent Venables hasn’t done an interview yet.

Overall, it’s tough to tell what’s true and what’s false for each of these three coaches, but I think it will take a lot for any of the three to leave Clemson.
