Clemson Football: Tre Lamar, Mark Fields to miss ACC Championship
Clemson football will be without two big pieces of their defense when they take on the Miami Hurricanes in the ACC Championship on Saturday.
Clemson football will be without two major pieces on the defensive side of the ball in the ACC Championship game on Saturday.
Starting linebacker Tre Lamar, who missed the last two games with a shoulder injury, will not be able to play against Miami.
Cornerback Mark Fields, who returned just as Lamar went out a couple of weeks ago, re-tweaked his ankle, according to Swinney, and won’t be able to go either.
Lamar will, in fact, be back for the bowl game or the College Football Playoff semifinal, which is good news for the Tigers.
Another positive for Clemson football was hearing that both Chad Smith and J.D. Davis will be available and ready to go this weekend.
Thoughts:
The Tigers will need all the depth they can get without Lamar in at that mike linebacker position. Tre Lamar has done an excellent job all season and it’s clear that the defense is better, especially against the run, when he’s in there.
The main key to stopping Miami’s offense is limiting their run game and not biting on the play-action pass.
That will be much harder to do in Lamar’s absence, but the Tigers have proven that they have the depth needed to be successful even without some of their best players.
Mark Fields has been very good this year, as well. Luckily, that secondary is starting to get healthy and there should be plenty of depth to step up in his absence.

The best news out of all of this is that neither of these two players are seriously injured. After a few weeks of rest, they both should be ready to go and be back in time for the College Football Playoff, assuming a win on Saturday.
