Clemson Football Update: Miami Tight End suffers season-ending injury
Clemson football will take on the Miami Hurricanes at 8 p.m. Saturday in the ACC Championship game. The Hurricanes will be without one of their top targets.
Miami tight end Christopher Herndon suffered a season-ending knee injury against Pitt last week for the Hurricanes.
The starting tight end had been a huge part of Miami’s offense for a large portion of the season.
Herndon was the Hurricanes’ second-leading receiver behind only Braxton Berrios. He had posted 40 catches for 477 yards and four touchdowns.
Herndon was also named to the second team All-ACC team on Monday.
Thoughts:
Overall, this is a big blow to the Miami offense. The Hurricanes run their offense through running back Travis Homer, but the passing game was predicated on Herndon’s success.
He had done an excellent job for them all season coming up with some big catches and becoming one of the best tight ends in the conference.
Typically, Clemson football has struggled against teams with solid receiving tight ends like Herndon.
Quarterback Malik Rosier, a former baseball player, was less-than-stellar last week against Pitt. As a matter of fact, Mark Richt pulled him with about eight minutes left in the loss to the Panthers.
In my opinion, that doesn’t bode well for the Hurricanes.
When you pull your quarterback that has been starting all year with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter of a competitive game, that messes with his mind. Not having tight end Christopher Herndon will only make things harder for Rosier.

We wish Herndon the best as he starts the road to recovery and, hopefully, he will be back better than ever very soon as he prepares for the NFL.
In his place will be Michael Irvin II, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin.
