Clemson football was announced as the No. 1 team in the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday. Here’s our thoughts of the poll.

It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen the No. 1 beside Clemson football.

The Tigers were ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll this weekend and are now ranked No. 1 in the poll that matters: The College Football Playoff poll.

The final poll of the regular season was released on Tuesday evening with the Tigers on top.

Here’s a look at the top-11 as we head into conference championship week:

  1. Clemson
  2. Auburn
  3. Oklahoma
  4. Wisconsin
  5. Alabama
  6. Georgia
  7. Miami
  8. Ohio State
  9. Penn State
  10. USC
  11. TCU

Thoughts:

This is exactly where you want to be if you’re a Clemson football fan. I’ve already said that if you can get matched up with any team, you want Wisconsin.

If you’re a Tiger fan, you want everything to stay chalk this weekend. That means Auburn beats Georgia. Oklahoma beats TCU and Wisconsin beats Ohio State.

If that happens, there’s no reason to believe that the order will change. I guess there’s a possibility that Wisconsin could jump Oklahoma with a win over the Buckeyes, but it’s probably not likely considering Oklahoma’s overall body of work vs. Wisconsin’s.

If Clemson gets Wisconsin in the College Football Playoff semifinals, it’s almost like a free pass to the national championship.

That’s who you want if you’re hoping of a repeat.

Overall, I’m a little surprised that Auburn jumped Oklahoma, but I guess that comes back to the Sooners’ lack of defense, which has really hurt them all season.
