Clemson football’s Mitch Hyatt continued his dominant junior campaign with a stellar performance against in-state rival, South Carolina.
The Tigers extended their winning streak over South Carolina to four games last weekend in a 34-10 thumping of the Gamecocks. Clemson’s offensive line in particular had a strong outing, led by junior left tackle, Mitch Hyatt.
According to Clemson’s coaching staff, Hyatt received a 90 percent film grade, recording five knockdowns, while giving up zero sacks on the night. The Georgia native finished the regular season with just two sacks allowed. Hyatt was named ACC co-offensive lineman of the week for his strong showing against the Gamecocks.
Thoughts
At this point it’s unclear what Hyatt’s intentions are regarding the 2018 NFL Draft. While he has been a consistent force along Clemson’s offensive line for the past three seasons, he can stand to improve in the eyes of NFL scouts and GMs.
Hyatt’s health is paramount to the Tigers’ championship aspirations. Clemson’s offense isn’t as heavily predicated on throwing the football as in years past, however, they still air it out when need-be. Starting quarterback, Kelly Bryant is counting on Hyatt to protect his blindside when he drops back to pass.
Clemson is set to face Miami in this week’s ACC Championship. The ‘Canes have one of the top defensive line units in the nation, responsible for 39 sacks this season. Hyatt will have his hands full trying to block wiry edge rushers such as, Joe Jackson and Chad Thomas.

It’s important that the Tigers be able to establish the run against this stout Miami front seven. Running the ball down their throat is the only way to keep this defense honest. Hyatt will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Clemson doesn’t become one-dimensional on offense.
