Stephen A. Smith, co-host of ESPN’s First Take had kind words for Houston Texans quarterback, Deshaun Watson.

Former Tiger, Deshaun Watson took the NFL by storm this season. In his first seven games, Watson completed 61 percent of his passes for 1,699 yards and 19 touchdowns, to just eight interceptions.

Unfortunately, Watson’s stellar rookie season came to an abrupt end after he suffered a torn ACL during practice. At that point in the season, the Texans 3-4, teetering on relevancy. Since Watson’s injury, Houston has gone 0-2.

The Texans are averaging just 10.5 points per game in Watson’s absense. Their recent skid prompted Stephen A. Smith to tweet the following statement.

Not only did Smith call Watson “terrific.” he also supported Dabo Swinney’s statement leading up to last years NFL draft. SI.com quoted Swinney saying the following of Watson.

"And I’m just telling you: They pass on Deshaun Watson, they’re passing on Michael Jordan. I mean, I don’t know what the heck I’m talking about, I’m just an old funky college coach, but Deshaun Watson is the best, by a long shot."

At the time it seemed like a stretch to most to compare Watson to Jordan, but, thus far he has lived up to Swinney’s praise. While he is not a six-time champion, Watson’s undeniable talent and ability to raise the level of play of those around him is remarkable. With him behind center, the Texans offense was a big play waiting to happen.

Smith is the latest in the long list of people heaping praise on Deshaun Watson and he surely won’t be the last. Watson may have torn his ACL, but he is sure to come back with a vengeance next season. In the year after tearing his ACL at Clemson, Watson led the Tigers’ to the National Championship, while posting 4,104 yards and 35 touchdowns through the air and 1,105 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.
