Clemson football gears up for their week 11 matchup with in-conference rival, Florida State. Despite the Seminoles’ 3-5 record, they still have the talent to give the Tigers a run for their money.

When? Saturday, November 11, 2017, 3:30 pm ET

Where? Memorial Stadium (Death Valley, South Carolina)

2016 Record: 10-3 (5-3 ACC)

Head Coach: Jimbo Fisher (8th year)

Betting line: -19 Clemson

Returning starters: 16 total, 7 offensive, 9 defensive

Florida State has been a major disappointment this season. There is a very good chance that the ‘Noles won’t reach bowl eligibility. Shocking to hear when you consider their preseason No. 2 ranking in the country.

Thoughts

Clemson has their work cut out for them in this matchup. The Tigers are one of the best teams in the country at the line of scrimmage, both on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.

Unfortunately for Florida State, that’s where they struggle the most. The Seminoles haven’t been able to protect the passer, ranking 108th in the nation in sacks allowed giving up 25 thus far. On the flip side of the ball, FSU hasn’t been able to get after the quarterback, ranking 94th in the country sacks.

If Florida State doesn’t play better upfront, they are in for a long afternoon against Clemson.

The Seminoles biggest problem may be holding on to the football. Currently ranking 125th in the nation in turnover margin, the ‘Noles are careless with the ball on offense and haven’t been able to produce turnovers on defense. It’s vital that true freshman quarterback, James Blackman make better decisions with the ball against Clemson’s aggressive defense. Brent Venables will employ plenty of pre-snap movement and exotic blitzes to confuse the Seminoles young signal caller.

While the college football landscape has experienced its fair share of upsets thus far in 2017, however, Clemson is in no danger against Florida State. Yes, the ‘Noles have talent across the board, but, potential doesn’t win games. FSU simply hasn’t produced this season and I don’t expect that to change this week.
