Deshaun Watson done for the season with a torn ACL

SEATTLE, WA - OCTOBER 29: Quarterback Deshaun Watson
SEATTLE, WA - OCTOBER 29: Quarterback Deshaun Watson

Former Tiger, Deshaun Watson suffered a torn ACL during Thursday’s practice. The Houston Texans rookie has experience with the rehab involved as he sustained the same injury during his freshman season at Clemson.

Nothing stings like unfulfilled potential and while all of Deshaun Watson’s long term goals are still on the table, he will miss the remainder of his spectacular rookie season. The Texans quarterback has been lighting up the NFL this season, completing 61.8 percent of his passes for 1,699 yards and 19 touchdowns.

During the Texans practice on Thursday afternoon, Watson torn his ACL in non-contact drills. According to ESPN.com, a source told Adam Schefter the following:

"The injury occurred about halfway through practice on a grass field; Watson appeared to trip or fall but did not yell."

This injury could not come at a worse time for Watson and Houston. The Texans have already lost, star defensive tackle JJ Watt for the year, as well as Whitney Mercilus. Being completely honest, it was Watson who was keeping the Texans above water as of late.

Veteran, Tom Savage is expected to get the start this week, with newcomer, Matt McGloin backing him up. Not only is this Texans’ defense a shell of itself, now they don’t have an explosive offense to lean on.

Back in 2014, Watson suffered a similar injury to the same knee. He showed admirable toughness, playing in one game with a torn ACL, before shutting it down for the season. Don’t expect history to repeat itself with the Texans. Houston’s entire franchise has alot riding on Watson, they have no reason to put their high first-round draft choice in danger.

One thing’s for sure, Deshaun Watson will come back even better next year. We’ve all seen the way that he uses adversity to fuel his success. Considering he was playing at a rookie of the year level, there’s no telling how good Watson will be next season.
