Clemson Football: Tigers ranked in top-4 of ESPN Strength of Record
Clemson football is ranked in the top-four of the ESPN Strength of Record metrics. You can be sure that the committee will be looking at SOR Tuesday night.
One of the metrics that the College Football Playoff committee will look at when determining rankings will be strength of record.
Strength of record measures the quality of a team’s opponents vs. what their actual record is.
Clemson football is ranked No. 3 in the ESPN strength of record metrics.
Here’s a look at the top-10, according to “strength of record.”
- Georgia
- Miami
- Clemson
- Alabama
- Oklahoma
- Penn State
- Notre Dame
- Oklahoma State
- Ohio State
- TCU
- Wisconsin
Thoughts:
Look, Clemson football’s strength of schedule speaks for itself. If the Tigers hadn’t lost to Syracuse, I think they would’ve been ranked No. 1 in the first College Football Playoff poll.
With one loss, though, I think Clemson’s strength of schedule and record matters. The Tigers have played and beaten both Virginia Tech and Auburn, two solid top-15 programs.
The College Football Playoff poll will be released Tuesday evening. I could see the Tigers going anywhere between No. 3 and No. 6. We will have our projections for the poll tomorrow, but I do think that Alabama and Georgia will probably be No. 1 and No. 2.
I think Clemson football gets a push past the majority of one-loss teams, but unfortunately, I belle Ohio State and, maybe, Notre Dame will be ahead of the Tigers.

It will be interesting to see, no matter what happens in this first poll.
