Clemson football had a bye this past week, but the Tigers were able to move up in the ACC Atlantic Standings. Here’s the updated week 8 standings.

Week 8 of the College Football season has come and gone.

Clemson football had a bye this past week after suffering a loss to Atlantic division foe Syracuse on Friday, October 13.

While the Tigers were not in position to control their own destiny after the loss, they now have regained that control.

Here’s a look at the updated ACC Atlantic Standings:

Team (Conference Record)

  1. NC State (4-0)
  2. Clemson (4-1)
  3. Syracuse (2-2)
  4. Boston College (2-3)
  5. Louisville (2-3)
  6. Florida State (2-3)
  7. Wake Forest (1-3)

A look at the coastal:

  1. Miami (4-0)
  2. Georgia Tech (3-1)
  3. Virginia Tech (2-1)
  4. Virginia (2-1)
  5. Duke (1-4)
  6. North Carolina (1-5)

Thoughts:

Clemson football now controls its own destiny after Syracuse lost to Miami this past weekend. The Orange put up a valiant fight, but came up just short.

With the loss, the Tigers move into second place in the ACC Atlantic with Georgia Tech standing in the way of their matchup with division-leading NC State.

The Wolfpack have yet to lose a game in conference, but that won’t matter if Clemson is able to go up to Raleigh and pick up a win.

If the Tigers go undefeated, they will win the Atlantic Division no matter what happens anywhere else. Clemson football will most likely match up against Miami or Virginia Tech in the championship game.

That will give them another chance to strengthen their resume as they pursue the College Football Playoff.

Of course, it all starts with Georgia Tech this weekend. The Tigers have to find a way to win their final five games (Georgia Tech, @ NC State, Florida State, The Citadel, @ South Carolina).

I don’t believe any of those will be cupcakes without Clemson football showing up ready to go.

It’s all about taking it one game at a time.
