2018 Clemson football commit Trevor Lawrence is approaching a feat only former Tiger quarterback Deshaun Watson could achieve in high school.

Gainesville, GA native Deshaun Watson surprised many recruiting analysts when he chose Clemson football over the likes of Georgia and several other schools.

Fast forward four years later, and now Clemson football has yet another special talent committed to them at quarterback from the state of Georgia in Trevor Lawrence.

Lawrence, who has led Cartersville to two-straight state championship, is off to a great start in his senior year.

Through seven games this season, Lawrence has completed 103 of 142 passes for 2,065 yards and 26 touchdowns to just one interception.

That puts his career totals up to 12,677 yards passing and 146 passing touchdowns.

So, what does that mean?

Lawrence is just 400 yards behind Deshaun Watson for the all-time career passing leader record in the state of Georgia.

Watson set the record in Gainesville with 13,077 yards passing, but it doesn’t seem that it will stand pass this season.

Assuming health, Lawrence will have three more regular season games and playoff games to break the record.

He is averaging 295 yards passing per game. That would mean he would break the record not this week when Cartersville plays Sandy Creek, but next week when the Hurricanes take on Chapel Hill.

Cartersville is currently 7-0, 3-0 in region play and I’d expect Lawrence to have them undefeated headed into the state playoffs.

Analysis:

In my opinion, Trevor Lawrence may be the most talented quarterback to ever commit to Clemson football.

Lawrence has as strong of an arm as anybody. He has the ability to scramble and his football IQ is off the charts.

NFL analysts say that if Lawrence could enter the NFL draft this season, he’d be taken in the first round. That’s how good he is already in high school. I believe he has the ability to be a special talent in Tiger Town. There’s just something special about the kid.
