Clemson Football Update: RB Travis Etienne ascending up the depth chart
Clemson football released its updated depth chart for the Wake Forest game. Freshman Travis Etienne has ascended in the pecking order for running backs.
Last week, Clemson football’s depth chart officially listed Tavien Feaster as the starter at running back.
This week, the depth chart reflected another change at the running back spot.
Freshman Travis Etienne, who has been listed fourth for the entire season to this point, is now listed as the second-string running back.
Etienne is now listed as the defined backup for Feaster.
There’s no “or.”
The coaching staff is officially saying what all Tiger fans have noticed since the beginning of the season.
Thoughts:
It’s not that C.J. Fuller and Adam Choice won’t get playing time, but Clemson football has made the decision to go with the two best running backs.
Neither Feaster or Etienne had great games against Virginia Tech, but that had a lot to do with how the Hokies stacked the box.
They were able to stuff the run and wanted to force Kelly Bryant to throw the ball.
In my opinion, however, this was the right choice for Clemson football. The thing I love about both Feaster and Etienne, but especially Etienne, is the big play ability.
It only takes one missed tackle or assignment for either one of these guys to take it the distance.
That big play ability will open up things for Kelly Bryant to run the ball and the passing game as well.
I believe you will still Fuller and Choice in a few situations. I think Fuller will see a lot of pass-blocking duty, but it’s clear the Tigers are moving in the direction of a Feaster-Etienne two-headed attack.
