Teams 8-6

8) Wake Forest (up 1 spot)

Record: 2-0

Recent game: defeated Boston College 34-10

If Duke had the most impressive non-conference win of the weekend, then Wake arguably had the best in-conference win. Hanging 34 points on BC in Chestnut Hill is quite the feat for a typically offensively-challenged team such as Wake Forest. Forcing four turnovers, Wake was able to control the clock in what was a pretty even game offensively.

Next game: vs. Utah State

7) Duke (up 4 spots)

Record: 2-0

Recent game: defeated Northwestern 41-17

No team in the ACC was more impressive this weekend than Duke. Beating a quality Big 10 team is a good win, but when you thoroughly dominate them, it’s a remarkable one. Duke outgained the Wildcats 538-191 and controlled the ball for nearly 23 more minutes. QB Daniel Jones had over 400 total yards of offense alone. Duke is quietly emerging as a dark horse in the ACC Coastal.

Next game: vs. Baylor

6) Georgia Tech (same spot)

Record: 1-1

Recent game: defeated Jacksonville State 37-10

Despite playing an FCS school, many people had Tech on upset alert this week. Jax State proved they belonged, being down only 10-7 at halftime. Three Gamecock turnovers proved costly in dooming chances for an upset in the second half. The Jackets’ offense was efficient, grinding out over 300 total yards with no turnovers. Amazing what can happen when you hold on to the ball.
