Deshaun Watson: Houston Texans’ new starting quarterback?
Former Clemson football quarterback Deshaun Watson might have just won the starting position for the Houston Texans after week 1.
Deshaun Watson replaced Tom Savage as the quarterback for Houston in the first half after an atrocious outing for the Texans.
Savage was pulled after going just 7-of-13 for 62 yards in the first half without being able to move the Texan offense down the field.
Deshaun Watson came into the game and was able to do some things, but still finished the day 12-of-23 for 102 yards and a touchdown.
The Texans fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars by a score of 29-7 to open the season.
Here’s a look at Watson’s first NFL TD drive:
What does it mean for Deshaun Watson?
Every Clemson football fan wants to see Watson get his shot. I believe he just earned the opportunity.
Texans’ coach Bill O’Brien will wait it out with a few practices, but I wouldn’t be surprised for the team to name Watson the starter at some point early this week.
Savage proved he was not athletic enough to escape pressure and, with the offensive line being as bad as it was, it would make sense to go with a running QB.
The Texans have plenty of other problems to sort out, as well.
As said before, the offensive line looked really bad and the defense did not get the stops it needed to. They will certainly be looking for a better outing when the travel to Cincinnati in just four days on Thursday.
I think that all starts with naming Deshaun Watson the starting quarterback.

I believe the organization will go with him and begin to build around him and his skills. At the very least, Watson will get his shot to prove he deserves to be the starting quarterback and that’s about all you can ask for.
