3. The defense is going to be good in 2017

The Clemson football defense allowed Kent State to gain 120 total yards on offense.

The Tigers completely dominated from start-to-finish. The Golden Flashes were able to pick up just five first downs and basically just conceded defeat from the very beginning.

Christian Wilkins and Dexter Lawrence looked dominant.

Austin Bryant and Clelin Ferrell on the outside looked good. The linebackers, led by Tre Lamar and Dorian O’Daniel looked solid.

I really like what I saw out of Trayvon Mullen at cornerback and Tanner Muse was also in on several stops.

The defense substituted a lot of bodies and got a lot of different guys on the field.

Brent Venables should be proud of his team’s performance as they did exactly what they needed to do in the season opener.

Overall, a great day from the defense was expected, but it was an awesome reassurance to see just how good the Tigers can be on that side of the ball.

I think there’s a chance this defense becomes one of the best in Clemson football history. They certainly looked the part on Saturday.
