NFL Preseason Week 3: How did the Clemson rookies do?
It was another week of NFL preseason football for the Clemson football rookies. Here’s a look back at how they fared this week.
On Thursday, Cordrea Tankersley and Ben Boulware were both in action. The Carolina Panthers got a 24-23 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Miami Dolphins fell to the Philadelphia Eagles 38-31. Boulware has yet to accumulate any stats in three games as a Panther. Tankersley did have one tackle for the Dolphins.
Jordan Leggett was sidelined on Saturday, when the Jets faced Wayne Gallman and the Giants in the battle of New York. Leggett did not play because of a foot injury, and he didn’t practice today either.
Gallman led the Giants in rushing for the second consecutive game. Last week, he rushed for 22 yards on 5 carries and on Saturday, he had 43 yards on 12 carries. He also had an 11 yard reception.
Quarterback Deshaun Watson was 11-21 for 116 yards and threw his first NFL interception on a pass that was too high for the intended receiver. Watson, starter Tom Savage, and Brandon Weeden were all unable to get the Houston Texans in the end zone. The New Orleans Saints won 13-0 and defensively made it hard for Watson to settle in the pocket. He was sacked twice and hurried many times which led to some incompletions. He also had at least three passes dropped. A closer look at his passing plays reveals that he actually did a pretty good job under pressure. He made nice throws on the run and showed good ball placement on completions.
Defensive tackle Carlos Watkins had no stats for the Texans.
Los Angeles Chargers free agent receiver Artavis Scott caught his first pass in the third quarter against the Rams, but a penalty nullified the play. He did have a special teams tackle and downed a punt. The Chargers beat the Los Angeles Rams 21-19.
