Clemson football released the official depth chart for the Kent State game today.

There were few surprises, but there were a few things that stood out to me. Let’s take a look at the depth chart and who the Tigers will look to play in Week 1.

The full depth chart can been seen here, via Clemson Athletic’s official website.

Let’s start with the offensive side of the ball.

Quarterback:

No surprises here, Kelly Bryant will get the start. Zerrick Cooper is the No. 2 and Hunter Johnson is the No. 3, just as the coaches told us a week ago.

All three QBs will get some playing time in this one, but I’m interested to see how Kelly Bryant throws the ball against the Golden Flashes and what the offense looks like under his leadership. This will be the first chance we have for ourselves to really evaluate Clemson football’s quarterbacks against another team and that is intriguing.

Running Back:

We were already told that C.J. Fuller would get the start in Week 1. Tavien Feaster and Adam Choice are listed as co-backups, but I notice something different.

Feaster’s name is listed first.

What does that mean?

Tavien Feaster will take the field before Adam Choice. In all honesty, Feaster has probably beaten out Choice, but the coaching staff still want to make Choice feel as if he’s in the race and that’s why they have them listed as co-backups.

Wide Receiver:

You’re going to see a lot of wide receivers in game one.

The starters- Deon Cain, Hunter Renfrow, Ray-Ray McClould- have been set for a long time, but now we have the second and third stringers as well.

The second group includes Diondre Overton, Trevion Thompson, and Cornell Powell.

The third group includes Tee Higgins, T.J. Chase, and Amari Rodgers.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that they will all see the field in this particular order, but they all will see the field. I’m excited to see what guys, especially Tee Higgins, Amari Rodgers, and Cornell Powell, look like and, as we’ve said before: This is the deepest wide receiver group in the country.

Tight End:

Milan Richard gets the start here.

This position is very thin in depth and the Tigers will need Richard to step up and fill some big shoes left by Jordan Leggett from last season.

D.J. Greenlee is listed second and Cannon Smith is listed third.

Offensive Line:

Here are the starters for Clemson football’s offensive line:

LT- Mitch Hyatt, LG- Taylor Hearn, C- Justin Falcinelli, RG- Tyrone Crowder, RT- Tremayne Anchrum or Sean Pollard.

The first four spots have pretty much been determined all summer long.

Anchrum has the upper hand at Right Tackle and will, most likely, get the start over Pollard against Kent State. But you will see both guys rotate in that spot.

This is a deep group that features several talented guys and they are also experienced. I think that experience could help them be more consistent than that of last year’s team and, hopefully, help move the offense forward.
